WITHIN
REACH
Interviewed by: Angela
You
are Jon Miguel, the "other part" of a group called WITHIN
REACH. Who is your partner?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Hechizero
What does each of you bring to the group?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): (style and experience wise). I bring a Pop,
R&B, and Latin style. My partner Hechizero brings Hip Hop
and Reggaeton. Before I got into the group I use to sing Pop music
and Ballads. As a soloist at the time I sang for Telemundo, opened
up for Charlie Cruz and at that performance was where I met Hechizero.
Was he performing too?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Hechizero use to Rap underground music, for
a couple of groups (Playboys). He performed the same night where
I was opening for Charlie Cruz, but we were not yet together as
a group. We had our own things going on.
Oh ok. Nice. So how did you guys decide to start calling yourselves
WITHIN REACH?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): The name came up because I felt that everything
that we wanted was within our reach.
Of course it is, if you work hard to get it. So how did you end
up doing the Telemundo show?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): I met a producer called Chino and he is the
one that got me into the show.
Oh ok. Is Chino your producer now?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): No he is not, but he masters some of my Pop
music.
Oh ok. Who produces WITHIN REACH now?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We have 3 producers. 1. El Master- he produces
our Reggaeton 2. Nathan from Flipzide- produces our mix style
(ex. Bachata & Reggaeton, Salsa & Reggaeton) 3. Dr. Javi-
produced our latest Reggaeton tracks.
With all of those styles that you mentioned. Does it get confusing
to have them all involved in your music?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): No it doesn't, because when we sit down that
is when our creative ideas come together, at the end of the discussion
we come up with what style we want to combine together. We just
love combining our favorite styles together and coming up with
a product we think everyone will enjoy.
What would you consider the MAIN style of the group to be?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): In reality we dont have a main style, but
some people consider us a Bachata group and others a Reggaeton
group.
Ok. So how many albums do you have out right now?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We are right now in the process of finishing
our 1st album.
Do you have a release date set yet?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): No not yet.
Do you have a name picked out yet?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We are thinking of using our group name.
Nice. Self-titled debut albums always go over well so that people
will remember you. What is your official website?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): withinreachct.tripod.com
How do you promote your group, your music and your site?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We try to post the information anywhere on
the web to DJS, Radio stations, or just ordinary people to pass
on the word.
Nice. Since in the industry, how have you been treated overall?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Honestly, very bad. We have been let down,
promised a lot, and some people scammed us for our money. Since
we don’t have a record label we have to do everything ourself.
Everytime we perform for clubs or festivals they want us to perform
for free.
Wow. That sucks but is reality. Most people think the industry
is all about the glamour (soooo not true). I don't mean this in
a bad way but I think that it is good that you found out the hard
way because when you do blow up, you will appreciate it much much
more. How do you think that people that are just coming out in
the industry should do things diff to avoid these problems?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Connecticut doesnt support our local talent,
so that’s why many local artists try to find work out of
CT.
Within Reach (Jon Miguel): They should first research people they
are thinking about working with, contact some people whom they
work with, have someone you can trust personally that can work
with you also don’t believe what certain people say about
the glamour at first.
I agree with that. What do you hope to accomplish before the end
of 2006?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Get signed with a record label, and have music
out there for everyone to enjoy.
Ok. Do you guys only have Spanish music recorded or do you do
English music as well?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We do Spanglish as of right now, and our 2nd
album will have some English tracks as well as Spanish.
How often do you guys record?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Once a month.
Ok. How many tracks do you normally get done when recording?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): One or two songs, depending on how good it
is.
How does a typical day in the studio go for you?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): It’s very stressful when I think I am
not getting the part of my song right (the way I invision it).
Once everything is done I am quite satisfied with what I have
accomplished.
That's
nice. Do you guys get together before getting down to recording
to decide how the songs are going to go or do you do it in the
studio that same day?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): We do it before going to the studio, but if
something comes up at the studio we get it done there.
Do
you have anything that you would like to say to your fans?
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Jon Miguel would like to give a shout out
to my wife Norma and to all my family. Also I cant forget all
the supporters of my music, thanks for everything guys.
Hechizero
would like to give a shout out to his girlfriend Jessica, to his
family, and also his brother that passed away (Luis Andres Alecea)
Thanks to all our fans and friends who have supported us since
day one.
And
from both of us: within reach thanks to Indie Street Latino for
giving us the opportunity to have this interview.
Well thank you very much for your time. I greatly appreciate it.
Let us know when you will be in Chicago so that we can meet up.
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Oh yes, of course.
Well thank you again. We will talk soon. Have a great day. Ciao.
Within
Reach (Jon Miguel): Bye
