RNS
Interviewed by: Angela
Angela:
Wow. Finally we get to get this interview done. You guys have
kept me waiting forever but it’s all good. I know you were
worth the wait. You guys are doing big things right now. Your
manager is definitely doing his job in making sure that you guys
make noise out there.
Angela:
I have heard a lot of new music that you guys recently did.
Did you actually get to record with those artists, like pitbull
and kayne?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: Yea Yea. We had cutouts of them.
Angela:
*Laughing* You had cutouts?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: Yea we had cutouts.
Angela:
Have the artists heard the music?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: We don’t know yet. They might have.
They are just a bunch of remixes that we are putting out.
Angela:
Oh ok. Cool. What gave you guys the idea to do that?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: The great manager they have. Wow. I feel
like I am doing this interview by myself.
RNS
(WHOLE GROUP) *Laughing*
Angela:
What are some of the artists that you guys would you like to record
with in the future? Not cutouts. *Laughing*
Shorty:
I am looking forward to working with Pitbull. That’s about
it. Anybody else I don’t want to work with.
Rubio:
Yandel.
Angela:
Ok. I understand that 3 of you are brothers and that you are implanting
a little phrase into your music so that people will have a trademark
to remember you by. “Hermanos por Sangre”. I know
you guys are brothers but was there something specific about those
3 words that made you choose them?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: The reason that they say “Hermanos
por Sangre” is for the simple fact that they don’t
look like brothers so they are trying to tell the people that
they are real brothers not just brothers by saying that they have
known each other a long time or by friendship but they actually
are real brothers.
Angela:
Oh ok. And do you think that it is being brothers and working
together will eventually help or hurt your careers?
Shorty:
Oh man I think it helps because it’s not our first time
working together. We have always worked together.
Angela:
Ok. And who has been your biggest help to your career so far?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: The good manager again.
Shorty:
Besides the 3 brothers that have been doing music one of my biggest
influences to our music is our producer Famine. He is the one
behind everything. He is the backbone to this. He is the heart
to this. The mind to this and everything. He is the one that actually
got me to do music, if not I would have been out in the streets.
Angela:
Awwww. How do you respond to all the talk about REGGAETON not
going anywhere now that DADDY YANKEE has saturated the market
and everything is sounding the same?
Famine:
I think that Daddy Yankee blew up a lot because of the remixes.
I mean, you have songs like “Gasolina” mixed with
Lil John, Pitbull. I think that it really opened up to the Hip
Hop market. People always knew about Daddy Yankee they just didn’t
know him to the point that they do now. He is coming out on Mun2
and MTV. For Reggaeton, yea there is a lot of songs that DO sound
the same. If you are coming from Puerto Rico, the songs are coming
from only 2 or 3 producers. It’s not like Hip Hop. Hip Hop
has like 1000 producers.
Angela:
How do you think that your style differs from every other Reggaeton
group that is out there right now?
ALL
OF RNS: The music speaks for itself.
Shorty:
You know what? It’s real. It’s not bootlegged music.
This is what we are going through. We are gonna take over.
Angela:
Nice. What new and exciting this do you have coming up for us?
Shorty:
We are still performing and we are still recording for the album.
Angela:
When is the album coming out?
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: Right now what we are trying to do is create
a buzz. Right now we are evaluating certain comments made by people
at labels and things like that so we aren’t really in a
rush right now. We want to make that buzz first. Then we can basically
knock on doors and everyone will know who we are.
Angela:
Ok
RNS
Manager Dj Frikkiao: You know you only get one chance to make
a first impression. We want to make sure that we are prepared
first and then we will knock on their doors.
Angela:
Right, come strong! What are some of the things that you guys
do in your off time?
Shorty:
Music
Angela:
Good Answer.
WHOLE
RNS GROUP AND ANGELA: *Laughing*
Shorty:
It comes to the point on Saturday nights we are in the studio.
Angela:
I can understand that.
Shorty:
We are trying to come out with a project that is song after song,
good. We don’t want to have an album out that only has a
few singles that are good. We want everything to be good. It’s
especially hard coming from New York because people don’t
give you the respect that you need. You know what the problem
is with us?
Angela:
Uh uh.
Shorty:
If I go outside I am going to run into Nesio. I am going to run
into Famine. We are all so close by that it’s hard not to
run into each other. Whenever we see each other, it’s always
going to be about music.
Angela:
Ok. And who are some of your personal favorites in music?
Shorty:
Myself. I respect myself. I look up to myself and pretty much
that’s it.
Nesio:
G-Unit, Jay Z, and Tego because he’s the one who opened
the doors for everybody in Reggaeton.
Dj
Platinum: My personal preference? I love Busta Rhymes.
Famine:
I look up to 3 people. Eminem. For producer wise Havic from Mobb
Deep and anyone who’s with G-Unit.
Dj
Frikkiao: As you can see these guys are all influenced by American
Hip Hop Artists.
Angela:
I know. Nobody shows like Vico C or any of those guys love.
Shorty:
Vico C gets respect. I respect him.
Dj
Frikkaio: Shorty is something like Tego. He is forced into Reggaeton
but he’s really a Hip Hop artist. That’s Shorty right
there. He’s like a Hip Hop person, you know?
Angela:
Oh ok. Dj Frikkaio, how would you describe your style of managing
for RNS?
Dj
Frikkaio: Aggressive, I just keep it moving.
Angela:
Always busy. Would you say the group has made your job easy or
hard?
Dj
Frikkaio: Easy. They have the talent and the main thing that I
like about the group is that they listen. A lot of managers have
trouble because the artists don’t listen. I worked with
a lot of artists before RNS and they kind of wanted to go their
own route and I think that is where many of them don’t succeed.
They don’t last long because a lot of artists have talent
but they don’t want to be guided. That is how they make
my job easier by listening. If they disagree they will tell me
and if they agree they will tell me.
Angela:
Do you guys have anything to say to other up and coming musicians?
Rubio:
Look out for RNS. For those people that want to make it don’t
let anybody, I mean ANYBODY get you down. Keep doing what you
love to do and eventually it will happen.
Shorty:
Never underestimate your opponent. We have been very underestimated
and that’s the wrong thing to do.
Angela:
That just drives you harder.
Famine:
Why try to follow a path when you can build your own path? You
can make your own style and have people follow you. Be yourself
and don’t follow anybody. That is what we are trying to
do. Besides RNS we are running a whole movement. Once we get in
the door we are going to bring everyone that we have under us.
Shorty:
I just want to tell everybody out there that you have to pay your
bills or else it’s LYTES OUT.
Angela:
Do you have any shout outs you would like to give?
RNS: DJ Frikkiao & FiestaCaliente.com, for giving us the opportunity
to show the world what RNS is all about, all our fans who represent
for us, everyone who has us on their radar, everyone on our team
holding it down for us, our moms, our road manager Belkis who
is like our mom on the road, all the mixtape DJs who are supporting
our project, club djs, radio djs, look out for the RNS mixtape
comin Nov 2005. check out our website www.rnsmusic.com or www.myspace.com/rnsreggaetonsensation
Angela: Well thank you guys very much for doing this with me.
I am very happy that we finally got to do it. I can’t wait
for your album to come out and I also can’t wait to see
you live in Chicago. You guys are going to blow it up out here.
RNS:
We appreciate all the love that you guys have given. Thank you
for all the support.
Angela
and RNS: Bye
