Miami
AP: After Pitbull
By Deshair
April
20, 2005 - After a successful launch of his TVT Records
debut album, M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue), Miami’s
Knight of Crunk, Pitbull is ready to take his
already quarter of a million in record sales above and beyond
any of his doubters worst nightmares. The ‘down bottom’
has more than a playoff run by their #1 seeded Miami Heat to cheer
about. They have the loyalty of this young, viscous verbalist
to cheer about as well.
To
come fresh out of the gate and gain any kind of national notoriety
is a blessing within itself for any artist in Urban Music. Pitbull
gave his thoughts on his early success. “I just thank God
for the blessings, you know” he says in a very humbling
manner. “Just to be in this particular position early in
my career is a blessing that I won’t take for granted.”
Pitbull,
talked about the process in which his debut album was constructed.
Let’s just say that he was on the move the entire time.
“I recorded my songs here and there, on a heartbeat”,
he said commandingly. “It wasn’t like I took a month
off to just focus on recording my album. We just put it together.
All I need is some paper, a pen, and a hot track so that I can
rock.”
Everything
about Pitbull embodies the many sides of his multi-cultural, multi-faceted
hometown. Even his start in this business was connected to a Miami
Legend who asked a younger Pit to appear with him on his hit single
‘Lollipop’. “Luke (formerly
of 2 Live Crew) is the King of Miami”, he says
with the utmost respect. “Luke gave me the opportunity to
build a bigger name for myself. But most importantly, he helped
me to learn the ropes of this industry.”
There’s
an ever growing difference between the ‘Independent
Record Company’ and a ‘Major Record Company’.
Pitbull took the opportunity to express why TVT Records was not
only the best choice for him, but it was the only choice. “TVT
allowed for me to be the individual that I am”, he says
in appreciation. “They never tried to make me into something
that I’m not.”
M.I.A.M.I.
(Money Is A Major Issue), demonstrates the truest definition
of being a diverse album. With his latest single, ‘Toma’
exploding rapidly through the South, and spreading across the
country even faster, Pitbull has center stage on his mind. “I’m
ready to get loose, get crunk, and get wild on stage”, he
says. “I’m gonna take yal’ on a tour that
‘Starts in Miami and Ends in Miami’, baby.”

NOTE:
P. Diddy has expanded his empire
into the world of Latin music with the new label "Bad
Boy Latino," a joint venture with Cuban-American
Miami rapper Pitbull. "It's gonna focus
on Latin artists and the fusion of what I do marketing-wise .
. . to embrace the movement and take it to the next level,'' says
Diddy. Bad Boy Latino will have offices in Miami and New York,
and will house Latin rap artists, as well as acts in Latin soul
and tropical music.”
