Peter John
Interviewed by Angela

You are a Multi-Talented musician. Can you tell us a little about those talents?

Well, I play a number of instruments including the piano, guitar, drums and percussions. I am also a songwriter, producer and an actor.

How would you describe your music in your own words?

Well my music is best described as R&B/Hip Hop. The defining difference in my music is that I fuse a number of different genres of musical styles together to form a unique sound.

By the sounds of your song Bailando, it seems that you are looking into getting into the Latino sounds.
What made you want to do Latin music?
Well living in Harlem, I am surrounded by a multicultural community and being around the Latin culture, you learn to appreciate the lives and music of the people. I was and still am intrigued by Latin music and being from Jamaica, our cultures are so similar that the incorporation of Latin music in my song feels somewhat natural to me. The song “Bailando” incorporates a number of genres of music. It’s fused with Reggae, R&B/Hip Hop and a strong Latin feel. I am trying to bridge the gap in the music and show my appreciation for the Latin culture and how it has influenced my music.

Who are your musical influences?
Wow, that is a tough one. My musical influences are Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Bob Marley, Donny Hathaway, Marc Anthony, Michael Jackson, Prince, Anthony Santos, Beres Hammond, and Mariah Carey.

How has living in Harlem, New York helped or hurt your musical career?
Well, living in Harlem has not hurt my career at all, if anything I would say that Harlem has helped to shape me into the Artist that I am today. Harlem is so rich in cultures and music. Just being in the environment as an Artist, walking the same street as a plethora of Artist did before me by the Apollo Theater, you can’t help but feel alive. You can’t help but breathe in that energy around you. You can’t help but be a hot Artist.

Do you perform anywhere on a regular basis?
No, I try to perform all over the country so everyone can experience the magic in the music. But I will say that now I am concentrating my musical efforts on the east coast.

How do you feel that everyone has treated you since you started in the music biz?
I guess its safe to say that the treatment of people, whether they be friend or family, since I have been in the music business has definitely changed over time. I have some people that are totally supportive and love’s to see the things I am doing on my path to success. There are some that don’t really care but want so desperately to be apart of it. Then there are others that can’t wait to see me fail.

Is there any new albums, demos, videos or anything else that is scheduled to be released in 2005?
Yes, I have my debut album tilted “One” that is due to be released summer of 2005. Also I am working on some movie sound tracks and a DVD for later this year.

If so, can you tell us about them?
Sure, my album “One” is a concept album about my life and the things that happen to me and around me in the course of one week. On the album I speak of my infidelities and how it affects and shape my relationships and my life.

The DVD is a spin off of the album called “One.1” because since the album is a story and you basically have to follow along with the storyline that is provided in the CD, we decided to elaborate on that and take it to film. The DVD is a video documentary of the album and the story it follows. It should be very hot…

How can they buy copies of your albums?
Well the Album will be available this summer following the release of the singles. You can pick them up at any music store but you can always go online to my website www.ipeterjohn.com and buy it form there.

What radio stations are currently playing your songs?
Well, we are currently being played on a number of Sirius satellite radio stations and we will be played on the clear channel stations upon the national release of the singles like Bailando.

What do you hope to accomplish before the end of 2005?
Before the end of 2005 I intended on planting my foot firmly in the entertainment industry as an innovative Artist, Producer and a Songwriter.

What is your official website?
My official website is www.ipeterjohn.com. There are a lot of copycat sites out there that has popped up now because of my name, but this is the official site of R&B artist Peter-John.

Is there anything that you want to say to your fans and other up and coming musicians?
Yes, to all my fans that understand the movement and direction of my music keep on supporting me because I do this for you. I do this because I know that you guys deserve to hear great innovative music and not the generic bull that they insist on feeding you out there. And to everyone that is coming up in the game, recognize your strengths and make great music. Start treating your career like a business and never be afraid to stand out.
