Miss
Flava
Interviewed by: Miguel Lopez
Indie Street Latino
Hey,
how are you doing, Miss Flava?
Feeling
great! Working hard at spreading the message of my music and feeling
very blessed.
For
you being a female, the fact that there aren’t that many
female artists in the industry as you know; did that present a
challenge for you or just open more doors along the way?
I
don’t find that it opens or closes doors…I’ve
had great acceptance from my audience and my message of female
empowerment has been very successful. However, I like to think
that it’s because it’s good music and because the
people enjoy it that my product is well liked….not because
I’m a female.
How
do you feel that everyone has treated you so far in the music
industry?
Everyone
in the industry has had their ups and downs…but I have been
very blessed with a very talented team of people behind me that
give me great support.
I’ve
heard your music before, but for those whom aren’t familiar
with you, how would you describe your music? Why do you think
people should listen to you?
My
music incorporates amazing beats with lyrics that will remain
in the listeners mind…and hopefully make a difference. The
cd includes everything from latin hip hop to R&B to Reggae
and Reggaeton. It’s a very urban compilation of my greatest
lyrical inspiration to date and the best my musical team has put
out yet.
When
you are singing you say it just how it is; do you get a lot of
criticism because of your lyrics?
You
can say I’ve been criticized…my grandmother still
hasn’t recovered from the language..jajaja. But the one
thing I get from everyone who’s listened is that it’s
REAL…and that’s something that I think the listening
audience appreciates and can relate to.
Do
you write all of your songs? Do you write for other artists as
well?
I
wrote the songs in collaboration with my team from Sueños
Discos. The lyrics are based on my inspiration and life experiences.
When
it comes to making music what it is that you love the most?
The
freedom of expressing your ideas and dancing to an awesome track.
You have to LOVE music in order to DO music.
Where
do you get your inspiration?
My
inspiration comes from my past experiences, my kids, my family,
my thoughts…things I see in the streets…the news…anything
that touches me in a way that I feel should be shared with our
community today.
Do
you have a favorite place that you pick to write your songs?
Nope…all
I need is a pen and the rest is MUSIC …jajaja.
Tell
us about your production “Himno de las Chicas”. How
many songs are in it?
17
songs in total plus a hidden track that you must listen to.
Why
did you pick that name in particular?
I’m
breaking through a male-dominated genre. All the girls hear is
“shake your booty” and “let’s have sex”
lyrics for the most part. I thought it was time for us ladies
to step up and show respect for ourselves and let it be understood
that there is more to us than sexy bodies good looks. Underneath
all the superficial beauty (by society’s standards) every
head is its own world and comes with a beautiful story. It’s
a movement…and every movement needs an anthem…ours
is Himno De Las Chicas.
What
are you hoping to accomplish with this production?
I’m
just a simple girl from Puerto Rico with a lot to say. I want
for people to listen to it and like it and dance to it and to
spread the word…. and to be given the honor of doing it
all over again.
Are
you currently doing any tour to promote your production?
Well,
I just returned from a small tour in Germany and next week doing
some spots in New York City and Miami then heading out to Chicago.
For
fans across the nation, where can they listen and or purchase
your music online?
At
www.towerrecords.com www.musica360.com www.amazon.com
They can also visit me at www.myspace.com/missflava.com
My fans can also send me an email at suenosdisc@aol.com
What other artist from the industry you would like to collaborate
with and why?
Wow,
collaborations are always a lot of fun and very good learning
experiences. I am open to anyone that has a passion for making
music and loving the people…en la union está la fuerza.
Is
there anything else in your career that you have done or are about
to do that you think everyone needs to know about?
We
are currently working on the second cd. It’s a stronger
production with lots of cool surprises and a different take on
Latin Hip Hop altogether. It’s very exciting and we can’t
wait to finish and show our fans.
Do
you have anything that you would like to say to other up and coming
artists?
Keep
going…the road is long and hard…but the people need
us. Remember: Nosotros somos las voces del PUEBLO
Well,
thank you for taking time off y compartir un poco con nosotros.
Sigue pa’ lante haciendo musica buena y nunca te deje render.
Gracias nuevamente! God Bless!
Muchas
gracias por esta oportunidad…Un beso enorme para todos!
