DETANE
written by…. Angela
Being
known on the streets for his Graffiti and recognized in the Hip
Hop world for his raging battle skills help this young artist
to stay on top of his game. RAW, UNCUT and REAL are the best words
to describe the rhymes of DETANE. This Guadalajara born, Los Angeles
dweller started out studying piano, guitar and organ when he was
9 years old but stopped it all abruptly when he found the 2 loves
of his life….Graffiti and Hip Hop. It wasn’t long
after that time everyone began to see him free styling at the
park, at parties and at shows. He released his debut album in
2004, which to this date has already sold 30,000 copies independently.
He will be releasing his sophomore album, “HOSTAGE”
in the Spring of 2006. It will include a DVD with behind the scenes
footage on the struggles that he has faced as an independent artist.
He has already shot one video for the album from the hit single
“City Nights” and is in the process of shooting two
more. He has been featured on TV shows, such as: “Law and
Order”, Mun2’s “The Roof”, L.A.T.V.’s
“L.A. Onda”, Showtime’s “The Next”,
Time Warner’s “On The Real”, Comcast’s
“From the Streets” and many more…
This street true Hip Hop head has received the chance to take
up many spots on mix tapes and compilation albums. One of the
most recent ones was “NOCHES DE HIP HOP/ LATIN HIP-HOP NIGHTS”
which featured other Latin Hip Hop artists such as: Bimbo, Mellow
Man Ace, Kemo, Malverde and Son Doobie. Detane’s outgoing
nature has earned him the honor of collaborating with other artists
and get spots opening up for major artists such as: KRS-1, The
Alkaholiks, Wu-Tang, Defari, X-Zibit, Slick Rick, Guru/Gangstarr,
Malverde, Son Doobie, Muggs, Psycho Realm, Self Scientific, Dell,
Mystic, etc. Respect and Honesty are two of the things that he
values most in his career. Never jumping on the bandwagon to fit
in with trends, instead he makes music for people to enjoy with
his flavor. Never afraid of what people will think, he gives honest
opinions about the things that go on in the industry that most
people won’t talk about. Detane prides himself on having
gotten this far in his career without a Manager or Label backing
him. He does his pre-production at home and post-production in
the studio. He never gets enough of the mic. He can’t wait
for the day when he will have a Major budget standing behind him.
Aspiring to one day own a sub-label through a Major is something
that keeps Detane pushing harder and harder to knock down all
the typical industry barriers. All that he asks from the industry
is RESPECT for all of the hard work and time that he has spent
doing what he loves. Take a listen and you will see that it is
easy to have respect for someone so true and real to what he believes
in.
