of the biography of Dario:
I started while I was in the Military in Korea 1987. Was hire
as a background vocal and ended been the lead vocal of the band
with the name of Sabor Latino. Then got moved to Anniston, AL
and from there I use to drive just about every weekend to perform
in Atlanta, GA to sing wih the band name La Orquesta Lyrica. For
personal reasons I had to quit the band and in 1992 I joying the
musical talent show for the US Army Soldier Show and travel all
over the States including Hawaii & Korea. Later while out
of the country I was singing with locals bands in Germany including;
Orq SalsaMania & Orq. La Claridad. Once back in the states
in Killeen, Texas I perform with Orq. La Clave for a period of
1 year. Then started to create my own band with the name of Dario
y Su ComboRican. I have been able to share stage with famous salsa
bands leaders and musicians like: El Gran Combo from PR, Orq.Tommy
Olivencia from PR, Celia Cruz from Cuba, Ray Barreto from PR,
Hector Tricoche, Luisito Carrion, Alex D’Castro & Oscar
D’Leon from Venezuela and the famous pianist from Cuba Mr.
Javier Vazquez who is the director of La Sonora Matancera.

Where
did your name originate and what does it mean to you?
The name Dario y Su ComboRican was originate in Killeen, TX in
1997. ComboRican-means to me “Combo” a combination
of different type of musicians that together using our own roots
and style will create an original sound of music and Rican-comes
from Puerto Rican, Mexican, American, NewYorkRican, etc all join
to create salsa music.
How would you describe your music in your
own words?
I will called “Romantic Salsa Music” combine with
the roots of Cuban music. Music is trying something new, trying
to find your soul, your heart and yourself and once you do that
just write music with it. This is what happen to me, as I live
thru life I wrote this different style of salsa.
Sweet-Salsa, Sour-Salsa, Salsa-Brava, Salsa-Picante, Romantic-Salsa
Rumba-Salsa, Any-salsa. These are some of the type of songs that
are included in the CD. Music that will make you dance and smile.
Is
your music exclusively in Spanish or do you have English songs
too?
This music is totally in Spanish. Working on some English tunes
for the future/crossover.
How do you feel that everyone has treated
you since you started in the music biz?
Some
people treat me nice and with respect and others just envy you.
You have to struggle to make it, you have to be persistent with
what you want in life, if not others are not going to let you
reach that goal. Ups and downs with situations but over all unforgettable.
Since I love music I am happy for myself because I am doing what
I want to do.
Is
there any new albums, demos, videos or anything else that is scheduled
to be released in 2005?
The only thing that I have plan for 2005 is a recording with the
famous Cuban band “La Sonora Matancera” that will
come out sometime in summer. By the way one of the songs “Levantame
Este Castigo” will be recorder in this new CD.
If so, can you tell us about them?
With this new CD we are looking forward to open new doors again
and go back to all of the Latino -American countries. We have
a new lady vocal singing some of the Celia Cruz tunes. Her name
is Massiel Andrew along with Mr. Welfo Gutierrez who has being
with the group since 1973 and myself, Dario Esteban singing some
of the Celio Gonzales and Bienvenido Granda, famous passed singers
of La Sonora Matancera.

your fans and other up and coming musicians?
If music is your drive then ride with it, just let it go and enjoy
life. Be the best that you can and learn from others as you are
developing your own style. Never give up on anything, just be
patience and let God drive for you, he will take you where you
want it to be.

de la biografia de Dario:
Mi primera oportunida en la musica fue como corista de la Orquesta
Sabor Latino mientras estaba asignado a Korea con el ejercito
de los Estado Unidos en el 1987. Luego termine como el cantante
principal de dicha orquesta por el periodo de 8 meses. Luego me
mude hacia Anniston, Alabama y de ahi viajaba casi hora y media
hacia Atlanta, Georgia a cantar con otra Orquesta llamada la Orquesta
Lyrica dirigida por el musico Enrique Mercado. Por rasones personales
decide avandonar el grupo y en el 1992 fui seleccionado para cantar
con el Army Soldier Show viajando y haciendo presentaciones para
los soldados en Estados Unidos incluyendo Hawaii y Sur-Korea.
Luego en el 1993 fui asignado a viajar hacia Alemania y alli estuve
cantando con las Orquestas: Salsa-Mania y Orq. Claridad. Luego
de regreso a los E.U. para el 1996 en Killeen, Texas estuve cantando
para la Orquesta La Clave por el periodo de un ano. Fue entonces
que decide crear mi propio grupo que hoy lleva por nombre Dario
y Su ComboRican. Tambien e compartido tarima con algunos de los
artistas y musicos famosos de la musica Salsa como: El Gran Combo
de PR, Orq.Tommy Olivencia de PR, Celia Cruz de Cuba, Ray Barreto
de PR, Hector Tricoche, Luisito Carrion, Alex D’Castro de
PR & Oscar D’Leon de Venezuela. Tambien con el famoso
pianista cubano Mr. Javier Vazquez quien es hoy el director del
famoso conjunto La Sonora Matancera.

Cuando
fue originado tu nombre y cual es el significado?
El nombre de “Dario y Su ComboRican’ fue originado
en Killeen, TX en el 1997. ComboRican-para mi quiere decir; “Combo”
que viene de la combinacion de un grupo o conjunto que unidos
hacen escuchar cierto estilo de musica a la audiencia y Rican-
que viene de representantes o nombres utilizados para identificar
nuestro origen; como Puerto Rican, Mexican, American, NewYorkRican,
todos juntos creando este estilo de musica latina.
En
tus propias palabras, como describirias tu musica?
En mi opinion yo llamaria esta musica como Salsa Romantica combinada
con las raices musicales desde Cuba. La musica es siempre tratar
de encontrar algo intimo, donde buscas en lo profundo de tu alma
algo que te inspire a escribir, a cantar y a vivirlo desde tu
Corazon. Esto fue lo que me sucedio a mi, mientras vivia escribia
canciones desde el Corazon que me hizo encontrar este estilo de
musica propia.
Salsa-Dulce, Salsa-Amarga, Salsa-Brava, Salsa-Picante, Salsa-Romantica,
Salsa-Rumba, o cualquier estilo de salsa pero que tenga mucho
sabor. Estas son algunas de las maneras para describer las canciones
incluidas en este CD. Musica que te hara pensar, bailar y sonreir.
Tu musica es exclusivamente en español
o tambien en ingles?
La musica del CD es totalmente en espanol. En estos momentos se
esta trabajando para hacer canciones en ingles como parte del
crossover.
Como te han tratado la gente desde que comensastes
en tu carera musical?
Alguna gente me trata muy bien, con mucho respeto mientras que
otros solo te envidian y te desean algun mal. Si reconosco que
tienes que sacrificarte, aprender a ignorar cometarios negativos
y ser persistente con lo que deseas lograr en tu vida si no otros
intentaran de confundirte y desviarte de tus metas. La vida tiene
altas y bajas pero los mejores momentos siempre seran inolvidables.
Algunos
projectos nuevos, demos, videos o cualguier otra cosa para el
año 2005?
Hasta el momento el unico plan que tengo para el 2005 es de finalizar
una grabacion junto a La Sonora Matancera de Cuba que por cierto
estara en el Mercado durante este verano. Por cierto una de las
canciones que esta incluida en este CD que lleva por titulo “Levantame
Este Castigo” sera incluida como parte de este Nuevo CD
de la Sonora Matancera.
Y si es que si, cuentenos algo sobre eso?
Con este Nuevo CD espero lograr habrir esas puertas que me faltan
por abrir y poder visitar otros paises Latino-Americanos con esta
gran agrupacion a la que siempre a fue identificada como el decano
de los conjuntos para el mundo artistico llamada La Sonora Matancera.
Tendremos incluidad a una nueva cantante que volvera a grabar
canciones de la legendaria Celia Cruz. Ella se llama Massiel Andreu.
Y junto al Sr. Welfo Gutierrez quien a estado con este conjunto
desde el 1973 y un servidor, Dario Esteban estaremos cantando
algunos de los exitos ya logrados por los famosos cantantes que
estuvieron un tiempo con La Sonora Matancera como Celio Gonzales
y Bienvenido Granda.

Si la musica es lo que guia entonces viaja con ella y disfruta
de la vida. Siempre hacer lo major posible y aprender de otros
para que asi puedas encontrar tu propio estilo y asi llegar al
publico a tu forma y con algo que te gusta hacer. Nunca te dejes
vencer, debes de tener mucha paciencia y dejar que Dios se encargue
de tu vida y tus metas, el te ayudara a conseguir lo que deseas
en la vida.
