• Is your music exclusively in Spanish or do you have English songs too?

My music is not exclusively in Spanish, even though, most of my songs are. I like singing in both languages because each one have their own “magical” words. My CD “Mi Universo” (“My Universe”) has nine an a half songs in Spanish and two and a half, in English. I say “and a half” because there is one –“Esta Verdad” (“This Truth”) - half in English and half in Spanish.

I like both languages, and I currently sing songs as much as in Spanish as in English, combining the beauty and variety of both languages. Actually, the son that has been the symbol of my album is once in English and once in Spanish, that one is, of course, called “My Universe” or “Mi Universo”

• How would you describe your music in your own words?

My music is within the style “Latin pop”, perhaps many people could understand what that means. Basically, it is different Latin styles blended into music with features of all Latin America.

My music has a strong message about life, about love and respect. Always performing live, I refer that: My music is about what makes me happy, what I’ve learned in life, how music identifies me, what I would like to share by opening my heart through the songs.

I communicate and motivate happiness, I cheer people to enjoy, to rise themselves, to take advantage of their lives. And that makes me very happy too.

• How do you promote your music and your website?

My website is promoted at the performances that I have done, and by attending local events, media interviews, and always when I talk with people I have the chance to mention it. That is something that I always do (I love the contact with the people, wherever I am) and, you know, always people ask what is your job, or what do you like doing and my music becomes the theme of the conversation. Actually, every time, the interviews turn into a light, nice and friendly discussion, as we are doing now.

• What is your official website?

• Do you have any clubs or events that you normally perform at? Where?

I have performed in different places and events and I have had my own shows at Arts West in West Seattle, but I don’t have a permanent place to perform. We inform the people who contact us, and fans about news and upcoming shows.

• What are some of the things that you bring with you to the studio when you go for a day of recording?

While recording I don’t bring anything special, just my usual BIG bag of candies, a Big-O bottle of water and –as always and everywhere- a have with me a silver little angel that Rudy gave me; my best vibe and all my energy, spirit and mind to put them into the songs! Nothing more than that.

• Do you write all of your own music?

Having enough feelings and emotions stored in my heart, I’ve wrote all of my songs; I mean the lyrics. Since I wasn’t able to write music, I made music sample for each lyric that I wrote, highlighting the instruments and features I wanted. In that way, the people who wrote the music for me had a clear picture of the spirit for the song and its style.

I have to acknowledge that writing songs is an endless delight for me, seriously. I hope to be able to write my own music in the future. Be sure when it happens, I ‘ll let you know!

• Why is that song your favorite?

Wow! It’s difficult for me to mention just one song because each one has an enjoyable rhythm and a special meaning. But I’d say that “Mi Universo” (“My Universe”) is a good picture of me; it represents me loyally wherever it plays. It talks about how see the world that exists inside and outside of one and how I love sharing it. Through this song I open windows and doors of My Universe, which becomes finally into “Our” Universe.
Another song that I enjoy so much is “Sonrie” (“Smile”). I am there, dancing in every word, laughing and encouraging others to enjoy. I always have a great time when I sing it and people in the audience too. It makes me laugh no matter how many times I have sung it!

• You are a Multi-Talented musician. Can you tell us a little about those talents?

I wouldn’t say that, I’m just a constant and perseverant learner. I begun in the world of music “by ear” (funny), attending the school choir with no good results. Then, the trying was at the Church choir, where I tried to watch the experienced singers that were there, to learn from them.

Once I learned the songs and I was able to sing them (I wasn’t considered a good singer, anyways), I started to pay attention to the guitar players. So, the question that popped up in my mind was “Why not?” I was watching for a long time and then, I started practicing at home, all day long during at least six months, while my out-of-tune strumming improving with the practice.

I started performing in different places every now and then, joined by my guitar; I also was joined by a group of friends to even record a cd raising money for our Church, which had good results.

In 2003, I moved to USA, where my husband Rudy motivated me to make my own CD. I started then, writing my songs, learning English and practicing more seriously.

I am still working, practicing and learning in each live performance, which is the most delightful way to learn, to improve and to grow new ideas to please and satisfy the audience, don’t you think so? Of course, the feedback is very welcome and well appreciated for me!

Besides singing, I am an artist. I enjoy drawing with pencil I had some of my work displayed in Chile. Graphic arts has helped me to create the visual portion of my communications, which is great for me, I can combine both!

I can say that technique is required for any job, to have a basic knowledge also, but what is also basic –over all, in this field- is to have passion, to put your whole heart in what you are doing. Other wise, you can’t develop your talents and be happy at the same time.

My biggest accomplishment has been to make it possible to materialize my dreams, my experience, my talent and my feelings into an album that has communicated all of that to different people, through the music. I’m very glad people have captured the meaning of it and the fact of they have appreciated it. And I’m talking not only my nearest people but all of who have listened to the songs on the radio or other places. For example, one song “Otono” (“autumn”) was inspired and dedicated to my grandma. When it was playing on the radio during an interview, a lot of people called to say they felt something very special with the song, they got emotional about it.

Because of that, I’m honored that many people’s heart have been touched by the songs, which are a big portion of my soul.

• At the end of your day when you go home, do you speak in English or Spanish?

At the end of my day, after speaking English all day log, I go home and speak Spanish. My first language is actually Spanish and, of course, it’s easier for me to say jokes, to play around or to say meaningful, precise words. I have much more resources to speak in Spanish, but since I like English and its own charming words, I try to improve and enrich my English every day.

• How would you describe the energy at one of your shows?

Well, I currently have a lot of energy, but before, during and after the show, my energy specially seems glowing. Really, I feel like that. Before the show, I am not nervous, but awaiting, happy; just like I’m waiting for a beloved visit at home: I make all the arrangements to make my visits comfortable and feel good at home, I dress nicely and give them my best. The same happens before the concerts; I wait for them and give them my dedication, love and my best vibe.

During the show, I pour that energy and feelings towards them, so every one engages with the energy and feelings of the moment. On the stage I’m natural, laughing, friendly, sincere and respectful. A lot of energy goes out from me, a lot of fun, a lot of me goes to the audience and it makes an intimate time between them and me. We have a great time at the show: as much as them as myself.

• Name one person in the music industry that has helped you more than anyone else? Why?

If I had to name one person, I would have to say than besides my husband, the person who has helped me is Barbie Anaka, our producer, no doubt about it. She was the first person in the music industry we talked with and asked to about the project. She was honest and direct, helping us to make this album with her professionalism and her advice. I have to acknowledge her.

• What did you do before getting into the music industry?

Well, I had studied Hotel Administration and I was working as the Administrator at a hotel. At the same time, I was teaching in a Professional Institute at Tourism and Hotel management careers, job that I loved doing, by the way. I also was working part time as a MC for events or singer. I was involved in my church as a volunteer in Women’s Help, at the choir, among other various activities, sharing with people, as I always have liked.

• What made you decide that music was the right career choice for you?

Well, when I sung and people told me how they liked my style or how they were touched by my voice, I thought they were just trying to be nice and nothing else than that. Some people approached me to encourage me to take it seriously or, even so, to offer me a couple of chances. But I never accepted them because I didn’t believe that, and I didn’t have enough motivation to do something beyond.
When I met my husband, he convinced me that all the other people were being honest, that I did have a wonderful talent, he calls it a “Gift from God”. He made me believe in the possibility of fulfilling my dream and to consider singing as a serious enterprise.

We followed the steps to move ahead, asking for advice from people in the music industry, who saw a future in me. So, I had the encouraging and “coaching” enough to dream, to create and to “make it happen”, which is our (my husband and I) motto. And see, here we are, working in the music business, enjoying it so much, that it would be impossible to have made any better decision.

• Is there anything else you want to say to your fans and other up and coming musicians?

Musicians, let’s go forward with our dreams, “make it happen”! : If you have something to share, do it, as the best as you can; work hard, and don’t give up you dreams!!!!

Fans, thanks for being there; you are inspiration, you’re magic, you are energy that makes me sing from the bottom of my heart!!

• Es tu musica solamente en Espanol o tienes tambien canciones en Ingles?

Mi música no es solamente en Espanol, aunque la mayoría de las canciones lo son. Me gusta cantar en ambos idiomas porque cada uno tiene sus propias palabras “mágicas”. En mi CD “Mi Universo” hay nueve canciones y media en Espanol, y dos y media, en Inglés. Digo “y media” porque hay una –“Esta Verdad”- que es mitad en Inglés y mitad en Espanol.

Me gustan muchisimo ambos idiomas, y regularmente canto canciones tanto en Ingles como en Espanol, combinando la belleza y variedad de ambos idiomas. De hecho, la canacion que ha sido simbolo de mi album esta una vez en Ingles y una vez en espanol; esa cancion es, por su puesto, “Mi Universo” o “My Universe”.

• Como describirias tu musica en tus propias palabras?

Mi musica esta dentro del genero “latin pop”, que quiza muchos podran entender que significa. Esto es, diferentes estilos latinos mezclados en un una musica con rasgos de America Latina, basicamente.

Mi musica tiene un fuerte y solido mensaje de vida, amor y respeto. Siempre cuando canto en vivo me refiero a ello: a lo que me hace feliz, a lo que he aprendido en la vida, a como la muisca me identifica, y como me gusta poder compartir abriendo mi corazon a traves de las canciones.

Me gusta comunicar y motovar alegria, hacer que la gente se levante y disfrute, que aprovechen el regalo de la vida. Eso me hace feliz a mi tambien.

• Como promocionas tu musica y tu sitio web?

Mi sitio web es promocionado en mis presentaciones, cuando asisto a eventos o entrevistas; tambien, cuando hablo con gente lo menciono, ya que me encanta tener contacto con gente y siempre la musica llega a ser el tema de conversacion. Tu sabes, ellos preguntan sobre tu trabajo y lo que te gusta hacer. Ede hecho, siempre las entrevistas resultan ser una conversacion liviana, agradable y amistosa, como la que estamos teniendo ahora.

• Tienes algún club o eventos donde cantes normalmente?

He cantado en diferentes lugares y he tenido mis propios shows en Arts West, West Seattle, pero no tengo un lugar permanente donde cante. Informamos a la gente que nos contacta y los fans de novedades y de los eventos que vienen.

• Qué cosas llevas al estudio cuando grabas?

Cuando grabo en estudio no llevo algo especial, solamente my acostumbrada GRAN bolsa de dulces, una botella gigante de agua y –como siempre, y a todas partes- tengo un angelito de plata que Rudy me dio; mi mejor vibra, toda mi energía, espíritu y mente para vaciarlos en las canciones! Nada más que eso.

• Tú escribes todas tus canciones?

Con suficientes sentimeitnos y emciones en mi corazón, he escrito todas mis canciones, es decir, la letra. Como no sabía escribir música, hice una selección de canciones por cada letra que escribí, destacando los instrumentos o características que quería. Así, la gente que escribió la música para mí tuvo la exacta idea del espíritu de cada canción y del estilo de música que quería.

Debo reconocer que escribir canciones es un gozo para mí. Espero poder escribir mi propia música en el futuro. Tengan por seguro que cuando eso pase, les haré saber!

• Cuál es tu canción favorita? Por qué?

Uauu! Es difícil decir sólo una, pues todas tienen un ritmo genial y un significado especial para mí. Pero diría que “Mi Universo” es una buena “fotografía” de mí; me representa fielmente donde suene. Esta canción habla de cómo veo el mundo que está dentro y fuera de uno, y cómo me gusta compartirlo. A través de esta canción abro las ventanas y puertas de Mi Universo, que llega a ser, finalmente “Nuestro” Universo.
Otra canción que disfruto muchísimo es “Sonríe”. Allí estoy yo, bailando en cada palabra, riéndome y animando a otros a pasarlo bien. Siempre paso un buen momento cantándola y la gente del público también. Esta canción me hacer reír, no importan cuántas veces la cante!

• Eres una multi talentosa música. Podrías contarnos acerca de esos talentos?

No diriía eso, sólo que soy una perseverante y constante aprendiz. Empecé en el mundo de la música “por oreja” no más, yendo al coro de la Escuela con resultados no muy buenos (es chistoso para mí). Luego, el intento de cantar en el coro de la iglesia, donde tratabe de poner atención a los experimentados cantantes que allí había, para aprender de ellos.

Una vez que aprendí las canciones y cómo cantarlas (yo no estaba considerada como buena cantante de todas maneras), empecé a mirar a los guitarristas. La pregunta qie somó en mi cabeza fue “Por qué no?”. Estuve observando por un buen tiempo hasta que empecé a practicar en casa: Todo el día, durante al menos seis meses, mientras mis desafinadas notas mejoraban poco a poco.

Empecé cantando en diferentes lugares de vez en cuando, acompanada con mi guitarra, e incluso, con un grupo de amigos grabamos un CD para juntar dinero para la iglesia, el cual tuvo excelentes resultados.

En el ano 2003 me vine a Estados Unidos, donde mi esposo Rudy me motivó para hacer mi propio CD. Entonces, comencé a escribir mis propias canciones, a aprender Inglés y a practicar un poco más en serio.

Aún sigo trabajando, practicando y aprendiendo de cada prsentación en vivo, lo cual es la más apasionante y motivante forma de aprender, de mejorar y de desarrollar nuevas ideas para complacer a la audiencia, no crees? Por supuesto, la crtica es bienvenida y altamenta pareciada por mí!

Aparte de cantar, soy dibujante. Las artes gráficas me han ayudado a crear la parte visual de mis comunicaciones, que es fantástico para mí; imagina, puedor combinar ambas cosas!

Podría decir que la técnica es importante en cualquier trabajo, el conocimiento es básico, pero lo que es también básico –sobre todo en este campo- es tener pasión por lo que uno hace, poder poner todo el corazón en lo que haces. De otra forma, no se puede desarrollar los talentos y ser feliz al mismo tiempo.

• Cuál crees que es tu mayor éxito desde que comenzaste en el negocio de la música?

Mi mayor logro ha sido poder hacer posible materializar mis suenos, mi experiencia, talento y sentimientos en un álbum que, a través de la música, ha comunicado todo ello a diferentes personas. Estoy muy contenta de que la gente ha captado su significado y lo han apreciado. Y te hablo no sólo de la gente cercana a mí sino todos quienes han escuchado las canciones en la radio o en otro lugar. Por ejemplo, la canción “Otono”, que fue inspirada en mi abuelita: cuando la estaban tocando durante una entrevista en la radio, mucha gente llamó para decir que habían sentido algo muy especial con la canción, que se habían emocionado.

Por eso, soy honrada y afortunada de que he tocado el corazón de mucha gente con las canciones que son una gran parte de mi alma.

• Al final del día, cuando llegas a casa, hablas Inglés o Espanol?

Al final del día, luego de habnlar Inglés todo el día, llego a casa y habl Espanol. Mi idioma original es Espanol, por supuesto es más fácil para mí hablarlo y decir bromas, jugar o decir palabras más significativas y precisas. Tengo muchos más recursos para habalr Espanol, pero como me gusta el Inglés y sus propias encantadoras palabras, trato de mejorar y enriquecer mi Inglés cada día.

• Cómo describirías la energía en tus shows?

Bueno, siempre tengo mucha energía, pero antes, durante y después de un show, parece especial, como si brillara. De verdad, me siento así. Antes de un show, no me pongo nerviosa pero espectante, alegre; como si estuviera esperando unas queridas visitas en casa: hago todos los arreglos para que se sientan cómodos y agradables, me visto bien y les doy lo mejor de mí. Lo mismo pasa en los conciertos, los espero y les doy mi dedicación, amor y mi mejor vibra.
En el show, vacio esa energía y los sentimientos del momento. En el escenario soy natural, risuena, amistosa, sincera y respetuosa. Muche energía sale de mí, mucha diversión; yo misma me doy a la audiencia y eso hace que el momento sea íntimo entre ellos y yo. Tenemos un entretenido tiempo durante el show: tanto ellos como yo.

• Nombra una persona de la industria de la música que te haya ayudado más que nadie. Por qué?

Si tuviera que nombra una persona, diría que, además de mi esposo, la persona que me ha ayudado en esto es Barbie Anaka, ninguna duda. Ella fue la primera persona en el negocio de la música a quien nos dirigimos para hablar sobre el proyecto. Ella fue honesta y directa y nos ayudó con sus consejos y profesionalismo a hacer el álbum. Debo reconocer eso y agradecerle.

• Qué estabas haciendo antes de entrar en el nogocio de la música?

Bueno, había estudiado Administración Hotelera y estaba trabajando como administradora de un hotel. Al mismo tiempo, estaba haciendo clases de Administración de Hotelería y Turismo en un Instituto Profesional, trabajo que amaba. También trabajaba temporalmente como maestro de ceremonias o cantante en eventos. Tambiérn estaba trabajando en mi iglesia en un programa de ayuda a mujeres y en el coro, entre otras actividades. Siempre compartiendo con gente, como me gusta.

• Qué te hizo decidir que la música era la mejor alternativa pata ti?

Bueno, cuando cantaba y la gente me decía que les gustaba mi estilo y que se habían emocionado con mi voz, yo pensaba que sólo lo decían por cortesía, nada más. Algunas personas se me acercaron a decirme que lo tomarta en seri y hasta me ofrecieron un par de oportunidades, pero nunca acepté porque no creía que fuera ciero y porque no tenía suficiente motivación para hacerlo. Cuando mi esposo y yo estábamos de novios, él sí creyó y me hizo creer en es posibilidad como una empresa seria.

Seguimos los pasos necesarios, pidiendo consejos a la gente que sabía del negocio de la música, quienes vieron en mí un futuro.. Entonces, tuve la mejor motivación y aliento para sonar, crear y “hacerlo real”, como nuestro lema.
Y mira, aquí estamos, en la música, disfrutando tanto que sría imposible haber tomado una mejor decisión.

• Hay algo que quieras decir a tus fans o a los futuros músicos?

Músicos, sigamos adelante con nuestros suenos, “hagámoslos reales”!!: Si tienen algo que compartir, compártanlo de la mejor manera que puedan; trabajen duro y nunca renuncien a sus suenos!

Fans, gracias por estar allí; ustedes son inspiración, ustedes son magia, ustedes son energía que me hace cantar desde el corazón!!
