100PRCENT
INTERVIEWED BY: KRISTIN

How did it feel being nominated and winning at the Chicago Music
Awards?
It
was an honor to be nominated with such names like R. Kelly, Common,
Kanye West, etc. It let us know that we were part of the elite
in Chicago. Actually winning the award was something else though.
Walking on stage people clapping acknowledging the hard work that
has been put into the group it was a good feeling. It was definitely
one of our prouder moments in young career.
What are all the awards that you have won?
Latin
Entertainer of the year (Chicago Music Awards)
Best new artist (Chicago Music Awards)
Hottest Latin group (Ritmo Awards)
You started out as dancers and then progressed
into singing was the transition hard?
The
transition wasn’t that difficult. We have a great bond with
one another. Robert and Hector are cousins and we’ve all
been friends for almost a decade. We added another element to
our performance and just tried to develop it. I think being friends
helped us a lot, I mean it’s not like we’re a manufactured
group where they just put 3 guys together. We started together
from the very beginning.
Well you are a Chi-town fav. What does it
feel like to be so well loved in your hometown?
The
buzz about 100PRcent is still growing, we’re starting to
get more radio play, and more people are beginning to pay attention
to 100PRcent. The following we have is great, our fans are the
best, its just a good feeling all together knowing that you have
the support from your hometown.
Since
all of you are hotties are you ready for all the attention you’ll
be getting from the female fans?
Well
since we are hotties attention from females is a normal thing…lol…j/k.
I think we’ll take everything in stride, I mean I’m
sure it will be overwhelming at first. It will be something we’re
not used to. We just have to make sure we don’t let it get
to our heads and we just stay focused on making good music so
that we can have fan’s giving us attention for years to
come.
Who is in your group and what do they do
or play?
There
are three members of 100PRcent, Hector, Robert and Gabriel. We
all share duties such as singing lead vocals, writing our own
songs, and choreographing our dance moves.

What are your ages?
The
world will never know…lol…we’d like to keep
the world guessing…
Where
did your name originate and what does it mean to you?
We
used to be called “CHK” when we first started off
as a group, then we changed it to “100PRcent” about
a year ago. We did a lot of things on our own as a group, and
our goal was to always put in 100% effort. As a group we know
each person had to put forth their 33 1/3% forming the 100% bond.
We felt the name suited us well because we put 100% into everything
we do. The “PR” in “100PRcent” was just
to emphasize the three of us being 100% Puerto Rican so we implemented
that into the name as well.
How would you describe your music in your own words?
Everyone
say’s that they have a different sound or they are bringing
something different to the music scene. Because we are Latin and
we sing R&B music which is usually dominated by other races
I think you can tell the difference between a song by 100PRcent
and any other group in the music industry. Urban R&B with
a Latin twist that you can dance to!!
Is your music exclusively in English or
do you have Spanish songs too?
Though
we focus on English music because that’s what our passion
is for, we do have some songs that have Spanish words in them.
Whether it’s the chorus to a song in Spanish or some Spanish
words mixed into one of our verses, if you listen close enough
you’ll hear it.
How do you feel that everyone has treated
you since you started in the music biz?
It’s
been a mixture of a lot of things, some people feel as though
a Latin R&B group will never work in mainstream America. Others
love the idea and are very confident that we’ll reach all
our goals. Regardless of what is said though, we always put our
best foot forward while doing our music.
Do you write all of your songs?
So
far we as a group have written every song on our album, we’ve
been through so much in our lives that finding material to write
songs about is no problem. Girls, clubbin, love, hate, relationships,
friends, crushes, you name it, we’ve done it!
What
is your favorite song on the album?
I
think as a group our favorite song is “How do you know.”
Why?
The
song asks the question “How do you know when you’re
in love.” In the song we answer the question, the answer
being “you just know.” It’s a real deep song
that everyone can relate to because no one has the true meaning
of love through words but when asked that question the true answer
is that deep down inside one …”Just knows.”
What other artists have you worked with?
We’ve
done songs with local artist like Disco, Sean Filote (“Latinas”),
Don Evoua (“Bella”), Lil Reap (“Jungle”),
Channel Zero (“Jungle”), and Thump (“Oh damn”).
How
were the experiences working with them?
It’s
always good to work with different people. They always give you
a different vibe to feed off of, a different energy so we always
enjoy doing new projects with different artists. It helps us add
another element to our portfolio.
Is
there any new albums, demos, videos or anything else that is scheduled
to be released in 2005?
In 2005 “100PRcent” is really trying to focus on the
group. We’re trying to put out a product that the people
will like, that’s our main goal. We’re almost done
with our new album but we’re not rushing anything. Timing
is very important in the music biz so we’re not hurrying
anything.
Where
can people go online to listen to your music?
We
have a website www.100PRcent.com where everyone can get a sample
of what 100PRcent has to offer. There you’ll find music,
pictures, info on the group, as well as the opportunity to sign
up to the mailing list where you can get all new updates on “100PRcent.”
How can they buy copies of your albums?
The
album is not for sale as of yet, however we do give away music
at all of our shows so if you’re fortunate enough to be
at a one you might get some free music.
What radio stations are currently playing
your songs?
Right
now we are very fortunate and blessed thanks to DJ Non-stop (www.djnonstop.com)
and DJ boogie boy to have our song being playing on B96.
Spins on Power92 should be starting shortly as well.
What do you hope to accomplish before the
end of 2005?
We
usually don’t make long term goals we like to take things
one step at a time but I guess you can say we’d hope to
have the album done.
What is your official website?
