QUESTIONS
with...
Chris White,
J.L. Mann Drama Coach, local Actor

1. What's the best show you've ever seen?
De La Guarda.  Chilean acrobatic "Theater from the ceiling"

2. Who is your theater hero?
The audience.         I still can't believe it when they show up.

3. Favorite Beatle
  Paul

4. Who was your most memorable teacher?
Rhett Bryson.          I still remember my first day in his Intro to Theater class.

5. "re" or "er"?
I think that making plays is a blue-collar job, so I guess I'm more of an "er" guy.

6.
If you could see a play at any theater in the world...
The Gate, in Dublin.  UNCLE VANYA is playing there now.

7. Favorite place to eat

The Rainbow Drive-In on Poinsett Hwy. There are these actor headshots on the wall...all with names you've never heard of.

8. What other job in the theater would you like to attempt?

I'd like to do curtain speeches for SCCT... come out drinking a beer, chomping on a cigar.

9. If a book was written about your life, what would be the title?
"I Swear There Was a Barbecue Joint Here Once; The Life & Legacy of Christopher Neil White"

10. Describe what you contribute to the theater (in one
sentence.)
I believe that theater can be as exciting as a live sporting event... or a big, dumb popcorn movie... or a shotgun wedding.  I'm all about making that happen.

EDUCATION SITE NOW ONLINE!!!
We now have the Education area of the site up and running, already with 8 Member schools!  We need EVERY school in the Upstate that has a drama department on this site, so please help spread the word.

The site is more minimal in design,  but hopefully not in content.  The current version of the site is lacking in many details, but over the next few months it will take shape; hopefully becoming a vital tool for any educational institution with a Drama department.

Our guinea pig team of schools includes The Fine Arts Center, Woodmont High, Christ Church Episcopal School, J.L. Mann High School, Clemson University, Furman University, North Greenville University and Greenville Tecnical College.

Welcome, Journeymen!
Js
This season marks the 15th year of the Warehouse Theatre's Journeyman program, which continues to supply their stage with new faces and extraordinary talent. They also perform in the NEA grant-winning "Wooden O" program, bringing Shakespeare to schools all over the Upstate.

You can check out their headshots, resumes, and bios on page 2 of our actor directory (That's right, we have made it to page 2) or go see them in person and on stage at the Warehouse.

   GETTING THE WORD OUT
Upstate Onstage is proud to have several hundred members receiving this Newsletter, but our records indicate that almost half of you are not getting these emails.  We need YOUR HELP in getting the word out to any other theater-folk in the Upstate who may be getting our amazing Newsletters in their Trash bins.  If you ask someone and they appear ignorant of Upstate Onstage, please enighten them.  Thank you for your continued support of this site.
If you can read this email but see no pictures, look around for any small grey boxes (This is mainly a problem with HOTMAIL users.)  You can click on one of these to somehow allow the images through.  There are a few email services that have problems with Constant Contact, the company we use to compose and send this Newsletter.  Please let me know of any conflicts.

Halloween ain't over yet...

We've already gotten into the Halloween spirit with TURN OF THE SCREW and MANSION IN THE MIST at the Warehouse, and SLEEPY HOLLOW at the Upstate Shakespeare Festival.  Now a few other theaters are gearing up to scare our collective pants off.  The Greenville Little Theatre just opened DRACULA and a double-bill of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD & A GHOST STORY runs until Nov. 04 at EFP.  Flat Rock Playhouse offers it's staging of SLEEPY HOLLOW, which runs until Nov. 18.
